What I Think

lightbulbs

Thinking causes far more trouble than it’s worth at times, it’s a pity it is such an addictive human quality. We all like to think and ponder over life’s great questions; well many of us do at least. For some reason we believe that putting our collective puny little minds to the task we can resolve the issues of the world… one beer at a time.

Perhaps we are all closet pundits waiting to get our own microphone. Maybe we are little golden Archie Bunkers, with hearts of gold and just as equally socially inept in one capacity or another. We are taught to not be prejudiced by well meaning teachers, yet our greatest humors come often at the expense of others and yes even ourselves, there by devaluing our existence even further than we even thought possible.

We find exits and excuses, reasons rhymes and rhythms to find some kind of mad symposium to this wild and wondrous existence we call living.

We received fire by the gods, or storms, or lava flows or maybe even sheer boredom. The truth is no one knows, we have evidence… but without being there who is to say what is evidence and what is happenstance. True we have well educated guesses to be sure; however even wise men have proven themselves to be simpletons to the test of time. In the end we have a profound mystery, and we do love a grand mystery.

Yes, we love a mystery; we literally love mysteries to death. We go after a great story and ruin it by finding supposed facts, which totally destroy the inner meaning of the tale… and for what. This elusive thing we call truth, that just so happens to support theories, beliefs and ideals that are currently popular among the common populace?

We love mysteries because they always give us what we need to support whatever claim we desire. Everything is as malleable as you decide to allow it to be. The only limit is not only your own imagination but also the imagination of millions of other wondrously amazing individuals. Who are also just as adept as yourself at making this grand old wonderful experience we call life just as miserable as your poor dark little wounded heart can imagine. Millions upon millions of blind little children who have taken up axes against one another in the name of truth… their own individual, blind narrow-minded truth that just can’t celebrate one another without tearing one another apart.

We are lead to believe in titles, yet cry to be free men. We state we desire to serve, but only if we are leading. We say feed the children, yet we balk when school taxes rise. We say give us cheap gas, when we have family, friends and strangers that we still ought to give a freaking damn about falling over and dying in the name an Oil company’s quarterly fiscal report.

We say we want love, but only on our own terms. We say we want friends, but only people that are cool and fun to be around. We say we want world peace, and as soon as that asshole across the street stops playing his music at three am maybe we’ll put down our baseball bats.

We say we want free speech, so long as the (insert favorite minority/majority group here) aren’t offended. We say we want law and order, yet everyone knows there is always one law that just doesn’t apply to them so long as they aren’t caught.

We are full of these lies and half truths. We live and breathe these dichotomies daily. Many of us subsist on them on a minute by minute basis. Believing whatever propogandamic nightmare that was dreamed up on the nightly news in your hometown, preached from the local pulpit, debated on PBS, or read from the pages of your newspaper.

Never forget, they want you to spend your coin with them. Whomever can wield the best interpretation of the story as you identify it is going to get your money. Not only that, they get your very soul. That ephemeral quality that may or may not exist that seems to be the driving force in millions upon millions of absolute blunders since the history of man.

We say we follow righteous men, yet in the end we discover them to be petty kings and tyrants.
Give us peace, we are given war and explained what a peaceful procedure it is.
We say don’t torture and they ask us if they could use some aggressive physical force to acquire the information they need. We say we need our privacy, they say no problem but we are going to need to wire tap your homes and phones just to make sure your government can trust you. We say remember to act like adults when representing us, they inadvertently show their asses in newer and more degrading ways.

In the end I say this is bullshit, how can leaders of freemen, claim they themselves are free when they too are but fooled by their own stupid chicanery? Sadly they believe their own half minded truths. They drool at the acquirement of their own titles. They slave away at building bridges to world peace, while all the while making sure that their side gets the winning hand. They sway the public with sad little jokes to show the little people just how cool and in tune with the common man they truly are. In the end they too are as much puppets as we the audience are.

As the victims of this madening dance we like to believe our actions are original, unique and without equal among our fellow critters on the big blue ball we call Earth. In the end we can see we are chattering monkeys fishing for termites out of proverbial tree stumps with one hand and still scratching our asses with the other.
So in the end we must see the unity of man as we are. We must see ourselves beyond our own interpretations. We must grasp that it is good enough that we believe it needs to be interpreted at all. That we dare to share this message of understanding. This true message of love and peace and respect for our fellow men; to not need law of men but mutual self aware compromise and compassion.
