Words and Wisdom

Posted on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in Blogging

VSAWelcome back dear Friends and Fans. As always we are glad to have you hear with us experiencing life at Open Heart Publishing. As you know we have quite a bit going on around here and it is my most humble duty to share what we’ve learned with you and to inspire you to your own little piece of greatness. Ha! Or maybe you’re like me and you’re looking to eat the whole pie. Either way, here’s another slice!

As you know, or may not know, Debrin, or illustrious publisher is off on a literary walkabout sharing his wisdom, meeting artists and writers like yourselves and spreading the word about Open Heart Publishing. “Growing the Brand,” you might call it “doing the dance arms all akimbo taking a major leap of faith. I am in awe of the gumption it must take. He was most recently in the Big Easy taking it slow on the banks of Lake Pontchartrain. There he met two of our returning contributors C.B. Calsing, who not only provided us with some great stories for our anthologies but also blessed us with a collection she wrote called “Along the Pacific”; and Robert Dean who gave us “Blue Eyeliner” for “An Honest Lie Volume 1: Encouraging the Delinquency of Your Inner Child”. That, is a great story. We’d love the read more of your work, if you’re reading this dude.

But, alas, on who walks about never can for long remain in one local so, Debrin has moved on again, the wanderlust snatching his feet and carrying him onward; this time to Nashville. Let us send with him our best wishes and let’s hope his luck improves. Here’s to you my brother … godspeed.been had

And while or publisher is doing the leg work on the road, we here at home are holding down the OHP fort. I am happy to say that we’ve read almost everything you guys have sent and we will be announcing the short list within weeks. I know it seems to have been an extra long haul with  the submissions extension and everything but the time is drawing short I promise you. I can say that I am extremely pleased with the submissions we received. You are one creative group of writers and I am privledged to be one of the first to read your work. We are going to have a hard time choosing the lucky few, but I think we are about to put out our best book yet. I can’t wait.

Alright then, with all of the words and all of the wisdom imparted, I will see you anon.

Still Accepting Your Submissions

Posted on Friday, March 18, 2011 in an honest lie

Calling for submissions for An Honest Lie Volume 3!
Never fear dear writer, this year we’ve gone easy on you.
Your challenge is a simple one. In only 3 – 6 thousand words you must deliver us …

“Justifiable Hypocrisy”

This is no daunting task. These are words we are familiar with and you, being the creative writers we all know you are, can surely conjure a crafty tale. Think on it! What a challenge. Which of us wouldn’t care to step up to the keys and force their labor into a work of fascinating literature? I will be there! Will you?

“A Bone,” you say; “a boon you plea!”

Fine a gift for my heart is kind.

We’re looking for …

… the ironies in life

… the serendipity of it all

… the epitome of adventure

… the power of imperviousness

… the pull of naivety

… the view from a different angle

… the mix of mood, moment, and movement

… the wretched truth

… a clever lie

… the humor inside

… the mockery of it all

We’re looking for perspective. Give us the angle, challenge our way of thinking, make us believers. Of course with that said, I must also say this:

*(Please keep it clean. No political commentaries, testimonials, religious manifestos, travel synopses, or poetry.)

The challenge is made … the rest is up to you.

… and a happy New year!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

The last year has been a big one for us here at Open Heart Publishing. I took over the Jr. Editors Desk in July, but before that there was the publication of The Cave of Colors and A Children’s Book of Necromancy. Both of which joined us with An Honest Lie Volume 1: Encouraging the Delinquency of your Inner Child at AnimeFest in Dallas. An Honest Lie Volume 2: Delusions of Insignificance was published followed not long after by author C.B. Calsings All Along the Pacific, a historical fiction anthology that gives us a glimpse of early Americana. And at the end we are revved up to start it all over again. Don’t forget we are now accepting submissions for An Honest Lie Volume 3: Justifiable Hypocrisy

It’s past Christmas but we are still fully in the swing of the holiday season. It’s not too late to order your copy of any of our great books. You can do your part to support the small press and check out our store.

Earlier today I had a long conversation with Our Fearless Leader and he let me in on some pretty exciting stuff. Something about t***rs and a bit about e****s and some thing else about E***c T***t. As you can see the company censors are all over it and won’t let me leak anything right now. I can tell you that we have some secrets and surprises in store for 2011. Even though I’m not allowed to give any spoilers … I am going to do everything I can to ferret out the details and, as ever friends and fans, I will spirit them on swift wings to your ear.

Until then, I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year. Have a safe and sane weekend. See you next year baby! Whooo!
