Congratulations to our new authors!

Posted on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in an honest lie

Congratulations to our new authors!

This year’s submissions for An Honest Lie, Volume 3: Justifiable Hypocrisy were an exciting mix of creatve, unique, and quirky stories. We absolutely loved all of them and regretted that our allowance of space would only permit publishing a small percentage. The authors chosen for this volume were equally interesting, and we know they will please our readers as well. In addition to our returning authors, we have ten new authors whom we would like to introduce to you now.
From Westmoreland, Tennessee, meet Helen Chapman!
Helen boldly brings us a story straight from the courtroom of real justice. You’ll quickly applaud the double-edged karma in this story!

From Los Angeles, California, meet Yance Wyatt!
Yance skillfully weaves us a tender story about childhood loss. You’ll be touched by the wisdoms learned in this story!

From Toledo, Ohio, meet Stephanie M. Lorée!
Stephanie’s unique and visionary work tells a creative story about fore-ordained love, and fore-ordaind lives. You’ll quickly agree that this story is unlike any other!

From Orland, California, meet Donna Hole!
Donna’s story brings us a new twist on werewolves that you won’t see coming. This story might make you sad, it might make you glad, and it might make you think that it’s rad!
From Farmington, Michigan, meet Dorene O’Brien!
Dorene brings her unique vision to us in her story about the lengths that love will take us to in order to make the right impression. You’ll be pleasantly surprised with this story!

From South Williamson, Kentucky, meet Ruth Webb!
Ruth brings us a touch of humor and irony, balanced with charcter and reality in a story about an extreme hobby. This is one convention you’ll want to attend!

From Carrollton, Texas, meet Bill McCurry!
Bill brings us a timeless, yet refreshingly new Christmas story about a department store Santa who is given a lesson in humility. This is one Santa story you don’t want to miss!

From Chattanooga, Tennessee, meet Greg Kheun!
Gregory brings us a controversial story about the dreadful realities of terminal illness. This story will bring you tears, and at the same time, anger and anguish!

From Staatsburg, New York, meet Joshua J. Mark!
Joshua brings us a wily and delightfully intriguing story about ultimate deception. You’ll be praising this story for some time to come!

From Flushing, Michigan, meet Sally York!
Sally brings us a good-samaritan story with a refreshingly wicked twist. This story will keep you guessing at who the real victim is
right up to the very end!

Please join us in sending huge congratulations to all these gifted authors!

Words and Wisdom

Posted on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in Blogging

VSAWelcome back dear Friends and Fans. As always we are glad to have you hear with us experiencing life at Open Heart Publishing. As you know we have quite a bit going on around here and it is my most humble duty to share what we’ve learned with you and to inspire you to your own little piece of greatness. Ha! Or maybe you’re like me and you’re looking to eat the whole pie. Either way, here’s another slice!

As you know, or may not know, Debrin, or illustrious publisher is off on a literary walkabout sharing his wisdom, meeting artists and writers like yourselves and spreading the word about Open Heart Publishing. “Growing the Brand,” you might call it “doing the dance arms all akimbo taking a major leap of faith. I am in awe of the gumption it must take. He was most recently in the Big Easy taking it slow on the banks of Lake Pontchartrain. There he met two of our returning contributors C.B. Calsing, who not only provided us with some great stories for our anthologies but also blessed us with a collection she wrote called “Along the Pacific”; and Robert Dean who gave us “Blue Eyeliner” for “An Honest Lie Volume 1: Encouraging the Delinquency of Your Inner Child”. That, is a great story. We’d love the read more of your work, if you’re reading this dude.

But, alas, on who walks about never can for long remain in one local so, Debrin has moved on again, the wanderlust snatching his feet and carrying him onward; this time to Nashville. Let us send with him our best wishes and let’s hope his luck improves. Here’s to you my brother … godspeed.been had

And while or publisher is doing the leg work on the road, we here at home are holding down the OHP fort. I am happy to say that we’ve read almost everything you guys have sent and we will be announcing the short list within weeks. I know it seems to have been an extra long haul with  the submissions extension and everything but the time is drawing short I promise you. I can say that I am extremely pleased with the submissions we received. You are one creative group of writers and I am privledged to be one of the first to read your work. We are going to have a hard time choosing the lucky few, but I think we are about to put out our best book yet. I can’t wait.

Alright then, with all of the words and all of the wisdom imparted, I will see you anon.

Keeping Austin Weird and Taking it Big Easy

Posted on Monday, April 25, 2011 in an honest lie
I love this city

I love this city

Hey there friends and fans. It is I, your intrepid Jr. Editor back from a bit of an extended vacation. It was a necessary break and it was healthy and fun to get away for a while. While the break meant not doing much of some things, like working, it involved doing a lot of other things, like gaming. The break though gave me an opportunity to refresh my mind and spirit and open up to the great possibilities of my mind. I see a bright future and so I pursue it with a dogged determination.

I am not the only one following my dreams with passion and persistence. Debrin is also on the road to his dreams. He is also literally on the road. Rambling across our great country, walking into his bliss, Debrin is spreading the work about Open Heart Publishing and he is also spreading a good word of hope and determination at various locations across the country. It’s an ambitious trip, it’s a massive quest and it seems as it progresses to be necessary in more ways than we ever knew when we were planning it.

Debrin began here in Dallas and moved on to Austin a little over two week ago. Austin, being the modern city that it is, embraced him and wove his dream into their hearts adding, as Debrin said, “a bit of their flame to his fire.” While there he met some amazing people all of them with dreams and journey’s of their own. To a man they were inspired by, or lent inspiration to, Debrin’s Journey.

Finding himself, after leaving here, backed up an unable to go, Debrin never the less wet out into the world bravely and in time found his movement. I believe it was the influence of Austin, its people and its cuisine that helped him relax enough to move on but that is the beauty of this journey. It’s going to cause us all to grow in ways we may never have considered. In Austin Debrin found his legs, his beginning if you will, there is now little doubt that what he’s doing is possible and that there will be people the lad over willing to hear him, accept him and share their truth with us all.

Now he’s moving on. Leaving Austin with a sense of regret for what is falling behind and a great sense of anticipation for what lies ahead BigEasy2ArtDebrin is moving on to New Orleans. I don’t know about you but I for one can’t wait to see what the Big Easy has to teach us. You can follow the Ramble at Debrins Journey Blog “Ramble Tree”. We wish Debrin the best on his journey and send all of our positive vibes his way. Debrin! Hollar at us dog!

Remember friends and fans that we here at home are working very hard reading the stories for An Honest Lie Volume 3: Justifiable Hypocrisy. It is not too late to get your stories submitted. The deadline is May, 15th 2011. Submit your work, follow our Facebook and Twitter, and buy our books.
